Who is writing this

An honest comparison, by someone with a stake in it.

By Ryan Kennedy, owner of Sparkled Lighting — a licensed and insured Davis County lighting contractor, featured in InvisiLights' national training program and a trainer of lighting contractors nationwide. That credential matters here for one reason: I teach the installation techniques this comparison is about, so I'll give you the honest version — including where the national brands genuinely shine. If you're weighing JellyFish Lighting, Trimlight, or a local independent installer, you're choosing between good options. Here's how they actually differ.

The warranty fine print

Ask every bidder the same question.

Warranty is where comparisons get slippery, because "lifetime warranty" usually means the product. Ask every bidder the same question: who covers the labor when a section needs service, and for how long? Sparkled Lighting includes a limited lifetime product warranty and a 3-year service warranty that covers the labor — and if a section ever glitches we troubleshoot by phone first and send a tech if needed.

  • Who covers the product when an LED fails?
  • Who covers the labor when a section has to come down to reach it?
  • For how long, and is that in writing on the quote?

Take this list to every bid.

Including ours. If another quote answers these better for your house, we would rather you knew.

The hardware question

Check it on everyone — us included.

You may read warnings that local independents install "generic off-the-shelf LED strips." It's a fair thing to check — so check it, on everyone. What Sparkled Lighting installs: commercial-grade RGBW smart lighting, IP68-rated for water resistance, 50,000-hour rated LEDs (20–30 years at typical evening use), 16M+ colors and the full white spectrum, dozens of effects, in custom color-matched aluminum track cut to your home's fascia. These are not adhesive consumer strips, and Sparkled Lighting does not install peel-and-stick products.

When a national brand is the right choice

Sometimes the answer is not us.

Honestly: if you specifically want JellyFish's flush puck-in-track look, get a JellyFish quote — it's a distinctive aesthetic and no one else makes it. And if a national brand name in the warranty paperwork matters to you more than who holds the ladder, a national brand is a reasonable pick. How do I vet any permanent lighting installer?

Six checks: Are they licensed? Are they insured? What hardware brand do they install, and what is its IP rating? Is the warranty split between product and labor — and how long is each? Who answers the phone when a section glitches in year three? And can they show photos of installs in your own area? Sparkled Lighting's answers, in order: licensed; insured; commercial-grade RGBW smart lighting, IP68-rated; limited lifetime product warranty plus a 3-year service warranty that covers the labor; the local Syracuse crew that installed it; and a gallery of real Davis and Weber County homes.

Is a national brand safer than a local installer?

Neither is automatically safer. A national brand gives you a recognizable name; the actual install and service still come from whichever local operator holds the territory. A good local independent gives you the same accountability with one less layer. Either way, judge the operator: license, insurance, hardware, warranty terms, and local photos.

What hardware does Sparkled Lighting actually install?

Commercial-grade RGBW smart lighting: IP68-rated for water and dust, LEDs rated for 50,000 hours (20–30 years at typical evening use), 16M+ colors with a true white spectrum from a dedicated warm-white chip, dozens of effects, mounted in custom color-matched aluminum track cut to your fascia. These are not adhesive consumer strips, and Sparkled Lighting does not install peel-and-stick products.
